When Joseph Pilates developed his world-famous movement system one hundred years ago, he was stuck in an internment camp. No joke. The guy used rings from barrels and springs from beer kegs and anything and everything he could find to assist in what he felt was his great work: to build strong, healthy bodies in the midst of a global epidemic (the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918-1919) and World War I. Legend has it that nobody who practiced with Pilates got the flu.
Whether or not that’s fact, something that we know is that Pilates created a movement system accessible to everyone and went on to use it to help soldiers laid up during The Great War to great effect. Define is our homage to Pilates’s notion that mindful movement is for all! In this format, we strive to offer the ultimate hour of cross training and corrective exercise with a contemporary, cutting-edge feel.
